Indicator 15
Use a variety of instructional practices to provide relevant and purposeful instruction to students in reading.

To help students to better understand space science concepts like planetary rotation and planet order in the solar system prior to a whole group reading about outer space. I modeled it with a soccer ball and a globe to show how the moon revolves around the earth and how they both rotate at the same time. I also had students physically get up to demonstrate rotation and planetary order by having one student be the sun in the middle and ther rest of the students moved around her in a circle. I did this for two reasons, students would benefit from physical and visual demonstration to develop a deeper understanding of space science concepts by making an abstract idea more concrete. I also wanted to boost student engagement as they need the physical movement to get some of their "wiggles" out and better engage with their reading instruction as the long periods of sitting and absorb information is too much for them after 35 minutes of instruction. In my last observation, I had a majority of the whole group get off-task and wiggly. So, for this observation, I wanted to implement more movement to better meet their needs.
