Indicator 7

Demonstrate evidence-based practices for developing both academic and domain-specific vocabulary for all students, including students with identified reading deficiencies and those with characteristics of dyslexia.

In my Observation 3, the focus of the lesson was to comprehend an informational text. To better improve text comprehension and reading, I pre-taught vocabulary and had the students repeat the words back to me. I chose four words, two of which were in the text, and two were needed to complete the summative assessment. I created vocabulary cards, with words, pictures, and student-friendly definitions. All students benefit from a visual and student friendly definition however, two of the students in this lesson are ELLs so, having the visual and simple text supports their understanding as well.
