In this assignment, we did aspects of the BRI (basic reading inventory) on a child. Afterwards, we had to create a message communicating the results of the exam to the child's caregivers. Then we had to rationalize the tone and communication style we chose. Since, this is a young child who likely has not been to schools before (kindergartner), I wanted to focus on explaining the test as well as its results in a positive, supportive manner. I did this because I wanted to encourage family and school collaboration. I also wanted to be sensitive of the fact that this is a young child who can very easily have their growth supported inside and outside the home. I considered that this may be their first child or their first child in school, or the parents may not be familiar with this type of test and its purpose.
