Provides classroom instruction to students in prekindergarten through grade 12 that is age and developmentally appropriate and aligned to the state academic standards.
This is an excerpt from my first supervisor obseravtion lesson plan. In this lesson, I had to utilize and explicitly teach a variety of strategies to prepare students for doing word problems. I used teacher-led think alouds, incorporated students into word problems, used themes relevant to third graders (for example Pokemon cards), had students visualize word problems as I read them aloud, and I selected student volunteers to act out word problems with physical items. I utilized all these startegies because I wanted students to conceptually understand word problems before I had them solve indepdendently. This is due to this class having a large portion of ELLs and ESE so, I wanted to incorporate strategies to support students who struggle with academic language and reading.
